Thoughts on Taking God’s Word Lightly

“Be not deceived; God is not mocked: whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.

For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption;

but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.” Galatians 6:7-8 (KJV)

God’s divine law of retribution is somehow taken very lightly by some of us who in time past have planted seeds of sinful and evil behavior and moved on, forgetting that we ever passed that way.  For though we forget our sin, minimize our sin or even deny our sin, it will inevitably bring forth fruit that will corrupt all the good that may have been done thereafter.  This real biblical principle is never so clear as when we are face to face with old sins, old behaviors that are breeding the fruit of fresh guilt and shame.  This is God’s way of insuring justice to all.  God is not to be taken lightly.

There are laws that He has in place that will be true from time through eternity.  All have sinned and all do sin and come short of the glory of God and the reward for that sin is indeed death.

Oh that I could go back and make better choices, undo the evil of an ignorant past, undo the pain caused by selfish, self serving behavior.  Alas this cannot be, for that season of planting has past and today is the crop from that history.  We can only plant in the Spirit today and anticipate the fruit of tomorrow.  What can we do about the sins and failures of yesterday?  Well, we can face the truth that the fruit are indeed ours, confess our guilt to God and those offended, and pray their forgiveness.  Forgiveness will not undo the past, but will lay the foundation for a new and better relationship with those who were offended.  It will free the offended to bury that which they cannot change so as not to be held prisoner any longer and it will release the offender into the Hands of God.  “Vengeance is mine saith the LORD; I will repay.”  Those who offend will not get off “scott free”!  God is the just Judge.

Today, I stand and speak out against all that I have been guilty of in the past. Today I am merciless toward sin, merciful toward those who commit sin, and compassionate toward those who are sinned against.  Sin should be condemned; the sinner should be punished and forgiven; and those who are sinned against should be comforted and healed, while God’s Word should be hailed as true and righteous altogether.  The sins of the guilty were punished in Christ and forgiven by God.  This is the message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  God sent forth His Son to rescue us from the penalty, power and presence of sin.

  1. The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound

  2. To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn;

  3. To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified. Isaiah 61:1-3 (KJV)

He came to heal the broken in heart, and set prisoners free.  This is our hope for a sin-sick world.  This is my hope for my sin-sick soul.  This is your hope for your sins, past and present and future.

Praise the Lord!

Thank you Lord, for saving my soul.

Thank you Lord for making me whole.

Thank you Lord for giving to me,

Thy great salvation so rich and free!
