The Journey of Faith

14 What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith,

and have not works? can faith save him?

15 If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food,
16 And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled;

notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body;

what doth it profit?
17 Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.
18 Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy

faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.

James 2:14-18 (KJV)

The life of Abraham, Gideon, Joshua, David and others were all lives of a genuine growing faith in God that resulted in a legacy of obedience that has formed the glorious picture of what it is to know and experience God. While thinking of them and their lives, I've noted a few things that I will teach and preach about in time to come, as our Lord permits. We as contemporary believers seem to lack the luster of a living faith that really makes a difference in our lives and the lives of those around us. This list is in no way exhaustive, just suggestive for our consideration. I only suggest these as the growth of faith as it matures.

  1. The Faith of Access= Saving Faith=Justifying

  2. The Faith of Obedience= Learning Faith=Sanctifying

  3. The Faith of Missions=Serving Faith=Giving and Sacrificing

  4. The Faith of Vision=Leading Faith= Hoping Faith

  5. The Faith of Ministry=Working Faith

Introduction

There are those of us who stand on the sidelines of life and remain in the safety zone for fear of the risk of failure, change and the unfamiliar. We are those who glory in the knowing of the truth to secure bragging rights to knowing, but who never crack the cover of obedience to experience the power of the truth we claim to know. There is the obedience of faith and the disobedience of fear. One likes to see and know, while the other prefers to "do and go". One is moved in his or her mind, while the other is moved to journey forward into the experience. One glories in knowing what God has said and moves out because the Lord has said it, while the other never really ventures beyond hopes, desires and dreams to obey what God has said. One is an observer, entertained by what he hears and learns, but walks away to continue his life without the risk of danger, while the other is a living breathing active participant in the obedience of faith. One gives all evidence of unbelief and doubt, while the other journeys forward in the true knowledge of God. What is the nature of your faith in Christ? Is it real or only a form of the real? Is it a risky faith or a safe faith? Is it a faith that obeys, or a faith that only imagines obedience? This is "where the rubber meets the road”! Is your life a living, walking faith or a dead formal ritual of the real?

A believer in Christ, a follower of the Almighty God, must be willing to risk the loss of all, in order to gain all that God has promised, and all that Christ has secured for us.

May God our Father grant us a secure, living and obedient faith is my prayer for our readers.

In Christ's Love
